What is the Gear Up Girl ride?
The Gear Up Girl ride is organised by Bicycle New South Wales (NSW) to encourage and empower women to take up cycling. It provides a supportive and inclusive environment for women to get involved in cycling and develop the skills and confidence they need for active recreation.

What is the goal of Gear Up Girl?
The goal of Gear Up Girl is to create a supportive and inclusive environment for women to get involved in cycling and to help them develop the skills and confidence they need for active recreation. It is also part of Bicycle NSW's broader mission to promote cycling as a fun, healthy, and environmentally friendly mode of transportation and recreation.

Who can participate in Gear Up Girl?
Gear Up Girl is designed to encourage and empower women of all ages and abilities to get involved in cycling. Whether you are a seasoned rider or just starting out, this ride is for you!

What is the route for the Gear Up Girl ride?
The Gear Up Girl ride will start at either Canley Vale or Rooty Hill and will finish at Prospect Reservoir. The ride will be approximately 15km in length and will be led by experienced ride leaders from local Bicycle User Groups in small groups of 10 riders

Do I need to RSVP for Gear Up Girl?
Yes, participants are required to RSVP by February 28th to reserve their spot and ensure that there are enough ride leaders available.

What should I bring to Gear Up Girl?
Participants are encouraged to bring their own roadworth bike, National standard helmet, puncture repair kit and any other necessary equipment. They should also bring a water bottle, snacks, and a small first-aid kit as a precaution.

What is the cost of Gear Up Girl?
The Gear Up Girl event is free to participate in. However, participants are encouraged to support Bicycle NSW by becoming a member. 

Is Gear Up Girl a beginner-friendly event?
Yes, Gear Up Girl is designed to encourage and empower women of all ages and abilities to get involved in cycling. Whether you are a seasoned rider or just starting out, this ride is for you! Experienced ride leaders will be on hand to provide support and guidance.

How do I get back/home after the Gear Up Girl ride?
Participants are responsible for their own transportation back to their starting location or home after the event. Some options include arranging a designated driver, using public transportation, or arranging a ride-share service. It is always recommended to plan ahead and have a safe and reliable way to get back to your starting point or home after the ride. A 10km ride from Prospect Reservoir to Guildford Train Station will be available for riders who would like to extend their ride

What if I have a mechanical issue during the Gear Up Girl ride?
Ride leaders and experienced cyclists will be available during the event to assist with basic mechanical issues, such as fixing a flat tire. However, it is recommended to have a basic understanding of your bike and to carry necessary tools and spare parts. For more serious issues, you may need to call for professional assistance or have your bike transported back to your starting location. Bicycle NSW also recommends having appropriate insurance coverage for your bike.


Will there be any male volunteers present at the event to provide support?
Yes! Male volunteers will be present to provide mechanical support on the ride and assist with setup and pack up at the picnic gathering. They will be there to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
